E10 vs E5 Petrol: Which Should You Use?

Understanding E10 and E5 Petrol

Since September 2021, E10 petrol has been the standard grade at UK petrol stations. But what does this mean for you?

What is E10?

E10 petrol contains up to 10% renewable ethanol, compared to E5 which contains up to 5%. This change helps reduce CO2 emissions from transport.

Can Your Car Use E10?

Most cars made after 2011 are compatible with E10. However, some older vehicles and certain models may need E5. Check your vehicle at gov.uk/check-vehicle-e10-petrol.

Vehicles that MAY need E5:

Price Difference

E5 (super unleaded) typically costs 10-15p more per litre than E10. If your car requires E5, this adds roughly £5-7.50 to a 50-litre fill-up.

Fuel Efficiency

E10 may give slightly lower fuel economy (around 1-2%) because ethanol contains less energy than petrol. However, this is usually offset by the lower price.

Where to Find E5 in Stoke

Most stations in Stoke-on-Trent sell E5 as "Super Unleaded" or "Premium Unleaded". Check StokeFuel for stations with E5 availability.
